The Telecom Construction Manager holds accountability for overseeing the construction schedule, expenditures, and the overall quality and safety of the project. This role involves managing resources engaged in construction work, including direct reporting staff, matrix staff, vendors, and subcontractors. Key responsibilities include:

Ensuring the review and adherence to daily job site safety plans, with the authority to halt work in the presence of unsafe practices or conditions.

Providing on-site analysis for ongoing construction projects, seeking guidance from higher-level construction managers or project managers for changes in plans.

Possessing a comprehensive understanding and experience in Construction and Material/BOM Management, collaborating with various departments.

Interfacing with the client’s engineering team and utilizing the company’s engineering and management team for decision-making.

Taking charge of scheduling, tracking, measuring, and reporting progress on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis to key stakeholders.

Implementing the quality program for both BTG in-house crews and subcontractors’ work, ensuring compliance with all quality standards to meet customer specifications.

Job Description / Responsibilities:

• Operate a variety of equipment, including HDD Rigs, locators, excavators, and associated support vehicles (such as various types of Trucks, Excavators, Forklifts, Dump trucks, etc.) and similar machinery.

• Prioritize safety for co-workers and the community, maintaining a constant awareness of safety protocols.

• Demonstrate expertise in telecommunications construction, specializing in Horizontal Directional Drills. Proficiently use cable placement equipment and tools, effectively identifying and troubleshooting issues to make informed decisions that sustain productivity and resolve problems.

• Oversee overall site, crew, and community safety, embodying and upholding Holmes Contracting safety core values.

• Understand and responsibly operate and maintain all vehicles, test equipment, and digging tools.

• Utilize excavation tools such as shovels, spades, picks, trenchers, backhoes, cable plows, etc. Perform additional duties as required.

• Instruct others in the proper use of assigned equipment.

• Ensure completion of daily maintenance checks on machines, conducting visual inspections, cleaning, and checking fluid levels to ensure optimal safety and performance.

• Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections, along with necessary paperwork and maintenance tasks, including winterizing equipment.

• Recognize the importance of pot holing, locating, and remediation processes.

• Execute drilling along the predetermined drill path to the exit pit, calculating speeds and feeds.

• Load and unload tools, utilizing a pre-setter to determine lengths.

• Back-pull conduits and cables from exit pit to drill pit.

• Communicate with the locator/lead via radio to confirm the drill head’s location.

• Assist in installing proper pulling gear and connecting products.

• Understand job quality requirements, conducting post-job quality checks.

• Adhere to safety procedures and traffic laws during transportation and at job sites.

• Set up jobs on the machine and interpret blueprints to program and run work pieces.

• Perform in various outdoor working conditions and document drilling activities meticulously, including borehole parameters, operational logs, maintenance records, and any on-site incidents.

• Report progress and issues to the supervisor and collaborate with project managers to ensure timely project completion.

Installing and maintaining mounts, platforms, antennas, RRU’s, TMA, and other related equipment on towers, rooftops, and other structures to enhance and update cellular networks.

Handling the installation and maintenance of coaxial and DC power/fiber optic transmission lines.

Assisting in testing both new and existing equipment.

Executing the installation of ice bridges, cable trays, equipment pads, racks, and platforms.

Installing underground and in-building conduits for electrical and backhaul circuits.

Acquiring proficiency in climbing and adhering to work safety requirements.

Demonstrating the ability to read and comprehend customer detail plans.

Delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring efficient, accurate, and safe performance of all essential job functions.

Adhering to all company and industry standards/regulations, including OSHA, NWSA, COMTRAIN, DOT, etc.

Reading and interpreting structural and architectural drawings, specifications, and design requirements pertinent to telecommunications, commercial, residential, and light industrial applications.

Conducting routine tests on telecommunications systems to verify optimal functionality of all components.

Performing diagnostic testing on problematic telecommunications systems to identify and resolve various technical faults.

Installing and maintaining RF cables, fiber optics, DC, and AC wiring in compliance with safety standards and codes.

They adhere to all company and industry standards/regulations (OSHA, NWSA, COMTRAIN, DOT, etc.). They conduct inspections and basic troubleshooting of both new and existing systems. They assist in the testing and operation of telecom equipment.

Requirements:

2+ years of experience in tower construction/maintenance. Knowledgeable in Telecom industry safety protocols and able to work at heights. Must have NWSA TTT1 and OSHA-30 certificates. Able to read and understand project documentation. Proficient in using technical equipment and tools related to tower services.
